Left-leaning filmmaker Michael Moore, who accurately predicted former President Donald Trump’s 2016 victory, recently expressed concerns that President Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict might jeopardize his chances of winning the 2024 election.
During an appearance on CNN, Moore highlighted the network’s poll indicating that 81% of U.S. adults under 36 disapprove of Biden’s approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Moore took the opportunity to send a message to the president, noting the significant loss of support among the youth and Arab American voters in Michigan, a state with a substantial Arab American population.
Referring to the protests in Michigan’s Democratic primary where over 100,000 voters opted for an “uncommitted” status due to Biden’s stance on Israel, Moore emphasized the potential electoral consequences. He mentioned the prevailing opinion that losing Michigan could cost Biden the election and expressed his determination to prevent such an outcome.
Moore, who shares a Catholic background with Biden, invoked their common faith and referenced the Pope’s call for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict. He emphasized the need for Biden to reconsider his position, especially concerning the safety of Palestinians and the impact on the broader electoral landscape.
Despite facing criticism from progressive Democrats, including members of the “Squad” in Congress, Biden has maintained a nuanced stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. While he has supported Israel’s right to defend itself, he has also called for de-escalation and expressed concerns about civilian casualties in Gaza.
Moore’s overarching message was that Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict could have significant electoral ramifications, potentially leading to a loss in key states like Michigan and paving the way for a Trump victory in 2024.
