Jack Smith Burns Through $50M in Trump Witch Hunt

Special Counsel Jack Smith has officially dropped the high-profile case accusing Donald Trump of interfering with the 2020 election, bringing to an end what many conservatives have long considered a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars. After a politically charged investigation that seemed more like a witch hunt than a legitimate legal process, Smith’s efforts to derail Trump’s political career failed to deliver the results Biden’s Department of Justice had undoubtedly hoped for. The case, which consumed an eye-popping amount of public funds, serves as yet another example of the lengths Washington elites will go to protect their power.

Smith’s appointment by Attorney General Merrick Garland was seen by many as a move to create the illusion of impartiality. Garland, Biden’s handpicked AG, likely wanted to avoid the optics of personally prosecuting Trump, so he passed the job to Smith to make it look less like a partisan vendetta. But the charade was clear to anyone paying attention. Smith wasted no time slapping Trump with charges over the 2020 election and the alleged mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. The goal was simple: tie Trump up in legal battles and keep him out of the White House. Too bad for them, it didn’t work.

Even with all the DOJ’s resources and a blank check courtesy of American taxpayers, Smith failed to secure a conviction. Trump stood firm against the politically motivated charges, ultimately prevailing in what many saw as a landslide comeback that left his detractors scrambling for damage control. Meanwhile, Smith quietly dropped an appeal regarding Trump’s alleged handling of classified documents. The timing, just before Trump’s return to the White House, is more than a little convenient. Rather than risk public humiliation by getting fired on day one of Trump’s presidency, it seems Smith and his team are opting for the backdoor exit.

The real scandal, however, lies in the staggering amount of taxpayer money Smith burned through during his doomed prosecution. According to records obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request, the special counsel’s office spent over $50 million in just a few short months. A significant portion of that went to salaries, rent, and contractual services—costs that would make any responsible fiscal conservative wince. If the case itself wasn’t already a circus, the budget certainly added insult to injury.

Adding to the mess, Smith’s operation wasn’t even technically part of the Department of Justice, further underscoring the political machinations at play. The lack of transparency and accountability surrounding this investigation raises serious questions about the Biden administration’s priorities. For now, the saga serves as a reminder of the resilience of Trump’s political base and the futility of Washington’s relentless attempts to undermine him. As Trump prepares to re-enter the Oval Office, the failed prosecutions stand as a testament to the deep flaws in the establishment’s strategy—and to their fear of what comes next.
