McCormick confronted Fauci with his own controversial remarks from a 2020 audiobook interview.
In the interview, Fauci dismissed opposition to vaccine mandates as “ideological bullsht” and argued that making life difficult for people would force them to comply with government mandates. “It’s been proven that when you make it difficult for people in their lives, they lose their ideological bullsht and get vaccinated,” Fauci had said.
When confronted with this statement, Fauci claimed his words were taken out of context. However, McCormick was quick to counter, stating, “In reference to making it hard for people to get education, traveling, working, I’d say it was very much in context.” McCormick didn’t hold back, telling Fauci, “Dr. Fauci, you’ve become Dr. Fear.”
This testimony marked Fauci’s first appearance since retiring as the highest-paid bureaucrat in the federal government. Throughout the session, Fauci’s responses were evasive, and his credibility was called into question. Many felt that his statements were riddled with inconsistencies and outright falsehoods.
